I preferred your original crop much better than this one. This one does not capture my attention much, whereas the original kept me looking around and becoming involved in the photo! Although these are the main interest items of the shot, this version does'nt seem to tell much of a story, nor does it have the feeling of Urgency that I felt in the first one. Obviously I have a different view from most here, but Thats what this is all about! A great photo either way.
I get a nasty feeling when looking at this image. I guess each of us can invent a story behind this one. The color treatment is definitely helping to create this feeling (sort of flash-back / dream-like). Great effort Bruce !

Good one Bruce. Better lines now with opposing diagonals and a line to connect the corners. I had in mind that if you'd been able to reshoot, you could have aligned the left edge of the frame with the left edge of the stairs and included more of the stairs than this version. However, I like the stairs being diagonal like this, so I'm glad I got to see this alternative.

Much, much better. This one has a lot more life (more dynamic) than the original. Well done and something for me to keep in mind when I'm faced with a similar shooting situation.
This comment-mania is paying off :)

Thanks for the critique! I wanted to reshoot, but the kid put his toys up! Anyway, I worked on recropping -- different aspect ratio -- and I think it looks better. I appreciate your input! -- Bruce
The monochromatic effect is almost pastel. Fascinating study. I agree with the others who've said that the story would be told better if the angles of the stairs converged with the angles of the line of toys. As it stands, my eye continues farther up the stairs past the items of interest. Tlaloc

Good effort Bruce. I like your treatment to make this look old and flat, in line with your chosen subject. If I was doing this one, I would have the bike there still, but have the left side of the steps in line with the left edge of the frame, probably even cropped out, to create a more pronounced diagonal of the steps from teh bike up through the frame to the top left. The steps are partway there, but not quite there. Thanks for some great textures and tones to look at. John

Nice blend of textures. Good Composition. This photo seems to tell it's own story!
Superb as always!
