Pots of Cacti by vera

Various sorts of cacti in pots of various colours.
Reason to desaturate the image: all the cacti look unhealthy, dry & yellowish, and are on the verge of dying of drought!
Reason to retain the blue pot among all of various colours: I love blue!! :-)

Thanks John, Elsa, Claudio, Linda, Ingo, Carmen & Troy hugely for commenting!! Also thanks everyone else for viewing. :-) I took another shot of the (still dying, even more so) cacti the other day, which can be found here if you love to take a look:

cheers, Vera. :-)

I've like this from the start and still do.
The blue and orange remind me of a sunset.

Vera,
What an interesting twist. The pot has all the life that the cacti no longer possess. And I'm not usually that partial to blue, but this, it's really quite cheerful!

I think the basic composition is very strong which really makes the picture stand up on its own merit. And I love the blue. Very nicely done.

The blue draws you right in.. I like this shot . Great job.

Hi Vera,

Ahh, what great color and texture this pot has. Cactus are always a fascinating subject to photographs. I also like the framing and cropping like it is . The diagonal composition works well and the cut off top makes the image more interesting by making the viewer completing the shapes. Nice one

I really like this. The turquoise and terra cotta colors are wonderful. And, I like the cropping. :-) I think the pot on the right creates a nice barrier to hold your eye inside the image and is a great balance to the diagonal lines of the other pots.Elsa

Thanks a lot for your opinions, John!!! :-) I've always loved critiques (i.e. positive as well as negative). Later when I manage to find some time, I will try cropping the right side and see how it will look. :-)
A disclaimer: They are *not* my cacti!! They would have been much healthy under my care... or not! Since just last night my 3 cats at home knocked down my beloved Spiky Spice (my spiky cactus planted in a pot with pepper patterns) during a round of hide-and-seek game... Vera. :-)

BTW, the reframing I mentioned could be achieved simply by cropping the right side of the pic away a bit more. I don't think it does much for the pic as its stands. Just a thought. Cheers, John

Hi Vera,
Cacti dying from drought. Yikes! Lucky Photoshop can resurrect just about anything! And don't forget to water each cactus EVERY year! LOL
I like what you have done here. I think this is a great example of a photo that works much better with this kind of treatment than it would have with the whole thing in colour. Even if the other pots are interesting colours, I think, as you say, the dryness of the plants would have detracted from the overall effect. The blue pot is tending towards horizontal symmetry if considered on its own. I might have framed it to place the blue pot a little further towards the right of the frame. However, the line created by the pots works well and I like the blue pot's place in the line of pots.
Cheers, John
