Calf Creek Recreation Area is a sweet spot, well worth a visit and campground stay, in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in Garfield County, Utah, west of the Waterpocket Fold that is protected by Capitol Reef National Park. We waited out a rainy evening playing cards, and then hiked to Lower Calf Creek falls. American Dippers sang and foraged in the creek, both at our camp and at the waterfall.
