The Sea-Based X-Band Radar-1 (SBX-1) is a fire control radar based on a seagoing semi-submersible vessel. The platform was developed by Boeing as part of the ground-based midcourse defense (GMD) component of the US Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). The GMD intercepts incoming warheads. Among other things, the SBX-1 is keeping an eye on North Korea's upcoming planned space launch.
