I like the interplay here of the flag and the monument in the cemetery at Manzanar. I see it as both representing the the encroachment of blind patriotism and the stalwart maintenance of identity.

The flag appears to be reaching out to embrace the monument. For me, this is a spiritual image that speaks of penance and sorrow for deeds done.
