Checking Names
Manzanar National Monument, California, April 2007

The Interpretive Center at the Monument has a dramatic listing of names. Relatives of the Internees check to list for names of their ancestors.

My first Manzanar gallery has my original working of this concept (http://www.pbase.com/mityam/image/73618473 ) and as you can tell it is a theme I come back to. I think you are right Vanita - the person adds a human values element. My previous visits to Manzanar have been with other photographers. They too have interpreted this wall of names. Here are links to their images: Phil Douglis ( http://www.pbase.com/pnd1/walls ) and Carol Sandgren (http://www.pbase.com/sveetzel/image/75629988 ,http://www.pbase.com/sveetzel/image/75660572 ) It is interesting to see how we each had our own take on this museum display.

A powerful image. The silloutte gives life and emotion and the exit sign adds another layer of meaning.
