Next apply Levels to the just created selection channel and move the white point to the left until the greys in the sky area go
completely white and move the black point to the right until there is a fairly distinct separation between black and white.

At this point, take the lasso tool and manually select everything in the image that's not in the sky and fill with black.

You should then have something that looks like this.
