Popularly known for years as the Temple of Vesta due to its round shape,
this temple is the oldest surviving marble structure in Rome.
Built in the 2nd Century BC with the spoils of victorious campaigns
against Greece it was restored by the Emperor Tiberius in AD 15 using
Luna marble (Carrara). It has also served as a church, Santo Stefano
delle Carrozze and later Santa Maria del Sole.
