The cruise ship stopped at Haines (whose main attraction is evidently a hammer museum) instead of Skagway, because there were 4 large cruise ships already in Skagway. We took a ferry to Skagway and got on the White Pass train.
This narrow-gauge railway was built to carry prospectors to the Klondike country.
It goes from sea level to the White Pass Summit, about 3000 feet above sea level. It was rainy and foggy, especially as we went higher. The photos aren't great (it is hard to hold a camera still on a moving train), but they show what an engineering feat building the railway was.
