I just found one of these beauties! Unfortunately it was dying , so it took it home and humanly frozen it. I'm going to pin and mount it, it's just so beautiful! Ojai, CA.

I just saw this for the first time last night just before dark 4/15/14 in Pollock Pines, CA at 3300ft elevation, I was sure it was a small hummingbird at first able to take a number of pictures it didn't mind my presence, had the confidence just like a humming bird knowing it can out maneuver anything. Sipping flower to flower.

Heidi in Salinas, we're in Paso Robles, CA & saw what looked like this moth too, twice during the 2nd week of March 2014. Friends saw it at their place too, none of us have ever seen anything like this moth. The only way to describe this guy, it's a cross between a hummingbird & a zebra striped moth. It was very interested in our flower nectar. Like you, not sure if this is the moth but it sure surprised a group of us.

I think I saw one sipping from flowers in our front yard. At first I thought it was a hummingbird. Still not sure this is it. It wasn't afraid and continued to sip while I watched. 3/22/14 near Salinas, CA

I just saw this beautiful moth, thinking it was a hummingbird also, came to the internet to research its name. I am in Brownwood, Texas and have never before seen this moth. I was amazed that it continued sipping flower nectar while we watched it flying just like a hummingbird.

Just saw my first one last mo., August 2013, had been coming every dusk to sip petunia nectar, I would be deadheading and this striped moth feeding on a plant next to the one I would be working on, amazing. He shares the petunias with hummingbirds and bumblebees, but wondering if the very large " bees" in June were moths too? Waterloo, Il.

I'm 66 years old & saw one for the first time today. Like everyone else I thought it was a hummingbird at first until I got closer & saw the antennas.

Highland Park IL. Saw this moth for the first time Friday night 9/20 at dusk. At first by it's size and the way it hovered in front of each flower to get the nectar, I swore it was a small hummingbird. But when it came close I could tell it was this moth! Simply beautiful and he didn't much care about me watching him. In fact he turned towards my dark red convertible which had both doors open and studied it for a moment. He then flew in the passenger door, explored inside for a few seconds and flew out the driver door off on his way I'm sure to find more flowers!!!

Glenview, IL We saw this moth hovering around the petunias in a planter in our back yard. We have never seen one before--we thought it was a hummingbird because of its size and flight pattern. Amazing!

Euclid, Ohio - shores of lake erie - My husband and I are looking at one right this minute. It has landed on a stack of wood we are piling. Obviously the project has halted. The moth is beautiful and does not mind us being close to it.

This is the first time we saw this moth tonight at dusk in our garden -- on our white-flowered butterfly bush. We too thought it was a hummingbird. We have never seen anything like this before here in Champaign, IL

We've had a couple in my petunias for the last week or so and wondered what they were - first time we've ever seen them as well - beautiful!

Just saw one tonight in my petunia's. I could get very close to look at it. It flew to all my flower pots in the front and backyard twice. Attracted mainly to yhe pink flowers. I thought it was a hummingbird and wondered why it didn't go to my feeders. First time I have seen this type in my yard and I have lived here in MN on the northern edge of the Mpls suburbs since 2005
