I saw what I think is a Moth, with a Pink Body, the Upper part of it's Wings are Pink, also its antenna or Legs are also Pink, it's Large Head and Lower part of Wings are White, about 2" in length, does that sound like anything you've seen?

I found this huge moth that was on the outside of my windows screen and its color was cream and brown its has 1 brown dot on each 4 wings I assumed to think that was for protection.I have it in a tube and i have been trying to do research but I still found no name it has been on the window but never moved then I noticed that the wings were ripped a few times

This medium sized insect was found on the side of my doorway one evening. There were 2 of them. About 2 inches long, brown with tan stripes. I was unable to count the number of legs. The stripes started at the top of the wing and went to the bottom at an angle. Then there was a tan stripe that went across the wing diagonally. They were gone the next day. I live in northern Nevada--Reno/Sparks area.

hello , I saw an unusual moth at my home and am wondering if you can possibly identify it. It was very arrow head shaped with a bronze body butmarked withblack at the edge of the wings ,also in black was a cross like marking on the back . It looked somewhat like a black and yellow lichen moth but the black on the back was not to the back of the wings and but shaped like a cross .thanks gene.....

I saw this moth on our wall, and have never seen any like it before. It looks like it was carved out of mahogany wood, and is about 1.5 to 2 inches long I have picture if I can email it to you

I spotted a "flightless" moth with bright orange-haired body and legs identical to that of the Spiny Oakworm moth. Body was at least 3 cm long and it was hanging on a small plant stem. It had dark brown winglets that looked like leather 3-4 mm long with a tiny yellow spot in the middle of the forewinglets. No antennae visible and tiny dark eyes. I observed it for at least an hour. Is it a female of the species (never will fly), it takes hours for wings to develop or different species altogether? Great pics. Ontario.

Hello I have been pretty good at researching and identifying species of insects but I found a micro moth the other day and cant seem to identify it. It was about 1/2inch in size, wing color was tan with brown specks. it's wings were parallel at rest and it had white long fur just at the sides of it's head. I snapped a shot and could send it to you. Thanks

My name is Sandy and I live in Fayetteville, OH. My husband photographed a moth which was sitting on a floral bush in our back yard. I looked through all the beautiful pictures in your collection but couldn't find an exact match, but that is what's so unique about the moths! "Ours" looks as if it is wearing camouflage. guest My brother and his wife just recently purchased a house near Louisiana College, Pineville, LA. They drove out to do some work and discovered on the wall of the house a moth (butterfly) of many colors much of what was red or reddish in color. I scrolled through the above photos and 2 females took on much of the appearance as the one they took the photo. Was wondering does the same thing apply to the moth 'kingdom' as does to the wild animal and bird kingdom: the males are the prettier? The tow I refer to are Callosamia promethea and Callosamia angulifera, both as I said, are noted as female.

These are really helpful! Going to see how many I can find to match your pictures. There's one in particular that I can't find the name of. It's relatively small, maybe 3cm wing span, lays flat, no tenting. It's wings are primarily white with brown edges and brown spots, but its head is bright orange. Any ideas? Upon further inspection of your photo's, it is a wavy lined hetrocampa. The single eye marking on the shoulders of the one I photographed is unlike any other I could find. It should be named The Wavy-Lined Big Brother Hetrocampa. Everyone I've shown it to thinks I've photoshopped it. Thank you for a great resource, very nice photos as well. It is now my "go to" for quick moth identification. I thought birding was tedious lol, it has nothing on moths.

I have a moth I can't match to any one I've seen before. It is similar to an underwing or dagger in shape, has a single distinct "human eye" marking on its back right above where the wings meet, and it has bark/mossy bands , and fringe all around, even on its abdomen which is quite prominent between the wing tips. I took a fairly good picture I can email you. It has me baffled. The eyespot is almost dead on with the all seeing eye above the pyramid on the back of the U.S. 1dollar bill, it is really freaky looking! I live in the south central U.S. thanks for any help you might give.

I've got a good pic of a cut worm, under 2', big yellow eyes, orange tongue, solid brown large head that looks hard and has a deep crease between the head & body. Brown body with spots, looks like four sets of feet. Body tapers to the tail end. Anyway to send you a pic?

Found a white moth with like reddish brown markings down its wings and on the edges of its wings. don't see it here but it sat on my wall for days and didn't budge, night or day. I also kept my kitchen light on during these days and nights and when I finally shut the light off, the moth just fell off the wall instantaneously. it was nowhere near the light though..it was as if turning it off killed it...i wanna know what kind of moth this is. never seen anything like it before.

linda I came across an unusual white moth which flew into my kitchen last night. I can't see it listed in your wonderful selection of photos. This moth was white, a reasonable size, but had almost pointed areas to the top of its wings, not rounded as normal, very delicate looking, as they often are.

These photos are SO EXTRAORDINARY! Thank you. I'm trying to identify a moth my grandson asked me about (and also get him interested in the natural world). It's white with blue-gray spots arranged in many stripes. It's wings are folded back so that it is almost oval in shape and has an oval with larger, blue-gray dots on its upper back. Two possibilities I will explore further are Hypercompe scribonia and Utentheisa omatrix. Also, do you have any advice for taking macro photos of insects? Thank you for this beautiful website!

And I thought I was the only one who liked to take moth pictures! (my husband makes fun of me when I do!) But, I find them fascinating...they are all so beautiful and will almost always stay still long enough to take a great photo. When I watch my 3 year old grand daughter, she asks me to show the moth pictures on my iPad...keeps her occupied and interested for a bit! I was on holiday in Malts when a white moth with red heart shaped markings landed on our balcony this was in april then I went to Kerala in India in January and could not believe that the same type of moth landed on our balcony again it was amazing I have never seen this type of moth before and yet it came to visit us twice hundrede of miles apart, I have tried to identify the moth but have not had any luck.
