Buddha's Hand Citron

Sugar Land, Texas

Photo from the produce department at our local grocers.
This lemony fruit is popular with our Asian community, especially around the time of the Lunar New Year.
Buddha’s Hand wasn’t commercially grown in the U.S. until the 1980s. The fruit peaks in the winter months.
When it first comes into season, the hand is closed, and the fingers look like the tentacles of an anemone.
As the fruit matures, the hand spirals out like an octopus.

Superb capture of this asian fruit ! The foreground fruit really looks like fingers trying to catch something ! V.

Fascinating. I had no idea that these shapes are grown on purpose and that they have this name. Every once in a while our lemon tree has a "mutant" fruit that looks a little like this. Very cool shot and interesting info. "V"

They are a strange fruit indeed... a neighbour of our 2nd daughter has one growing
and gave me one to take home. I had no idea what to do with it..but I believe
the skin is good for crystallising? Fabulous image Lynn. v

How fascinating -- I don't think I've ever seen this before. Great closeup of it, too. V.
