The sun was blazing, so we decided to hop into the car and drive down to Elie again. It really is a beautiful place. While there we noticed children running off the end of the harbour wall into the water. Normally this practice, which is called tombstoning, is considered dangerous and is usually discouraged - even to the extent that the police will intervene. However, in this case the children, who were wearing wet suits, were simply imitating the RNLI crew by jumping into relatively deep and very clear water. They were being carefully watched by two RNLI lifeboats and two Elie beach lifeguards. The kids were having a whale of a time cooling off in the waters of the Firth of Forth.
