Disappearing Hong Kong

A gallery attempting to document some of Hong Kong's history before the Government and land department rip anything old down to make way for another ugly generic high rise or highway. The singular focus of these people astonishes me; these aren't necessarily particularly attractive places but they represent part of Hong Kong's history, have character, and form part of our collective memory.

More astutely put, Hong Kong's most authoritative and lucid blogger Hemlock writes:

...Officials consider ‘making money for the government’ a perfectly valid and natural reason to destroy heritage or allow over-development. It is almost as if the government sees itself as a commercial entity struggling for wealth in competition with other parts of the economy and its own people...
