Complete hysteria Hong Kong style on November 11th, 2006, as four Star ferries carrying charity ticket holders make their final departure of five decades from Edinburgh Place, and the light of the clock tower is turned off after striking midnight. One can only have wished that this much enthusiasm to preserve the site had occurred earlier.
The Star Ferry will continue to run, just from the new Central pier which has been built on a reclaimed site about 400 metres from the old ferry pier. Edinburgh place and Queens Pier will be demolished to make way for a six lane highway and shopping mall - like we need more of either of those. Nice one Hong Kong.
Too bad I missed the chance to pay tribute to it before it went down... I took a lot of Star Ferry rides when I lived in HK... thanks for taking & sharing these photos. :-) vera
