Super Mega Macro

Ok that is just a name I came up with, it's not a real photographic description for how I did this shot so please don't go into your local camera store and tell the person behind the counter that you want to take Super Mega Macros like James on Pbase.com OK.

Well this is the end of my first month doing a Pad. So to celebrate I have been saving something special. Macro and Super Mega Macros are something I really enjoy but have not played with that much yet.

So tonight I did a Super Mega Macro of my watch. This is exactly how the image comes out of the camera the blacked out area is part of the process, I guess, well I have not figured out how to get rid of it other than the obvious cropping. The depth of field is so razor thin that the reversed lens was actually touching/resting on the watch face to get close enough to focus.

To do this process you just need a extra 50mm lens and a male to male coupling filter ring. Why male to male? Because you take the 50mm lens (that is not connected to your camera) and you reverse connect it to the lens that is on your camera. Face to face. That is why you need the male to male coupling filter ring. My G5 has a filter adaptor on it that is 58mm and this cheap Minolta 50mm f2.0 lens I got off of ebay for 5 bucks is a 49mm filter size so my coupling ring is a male to male 49mm to 58mm.

If you notice from my description above that I have a Canon and a Minolta lens put together, so if you are asking yourself how did he do that cause they are of different mounts. Then you missed the very part that makes the Super Mega Macro work. The extra lens is mounted FACE to FACE. So it does not matter what mount the extra lens is of. Only making the filter threads match is important.

Here is the alternate for today. It is of my cell phone in Super Mega Macro Mode. http://www4.pbase.com/lundy/image/39267594
