Fondue

This image is inspired by tonight's dinner.

Tonight I took Abby out to celebrate her new job. We, when I say we I mean she, have been wanting to goto The Melting Pot for some time and this provided a reason. I felt guility cause I was supposed to be taking Abby out dinner to celebrate but she ended up cooking most of the fondue at the resturant. I was feeling bad since she did most of the work on "her night out". Don't get me wrong I offered but she was very into it and wanted to do it all herself, but when we got home I was still wanting to do for her, so I made her a mini fondue as a joke and here is the image.

We got the "Big Night Out" which is the "works". It was a very filling 4 course meal.

Starting with 4oz of german beer with melted chedar cheese and black pepper, worcester sauce, mustard powder and garlic mixed and melted in the fondue pot, served with green apples, raw carrots, celery, calliflour and a mix of cubed breads.

Next was the salad, eh nothing really special there, the homemade honey mustard dressing was very good and actually that was the best salad I have had in some time. Very fresh crisp lettuce really makes a salad.

Now on to the entrees, course three. Ordering the "works" gives you a large variety of meats and veggies to fondue. Now for those of you who have never had a fondue experience, what this means is you get raw food and you have to cook it yourself. The meats included chicken, pork tenderloin, tiger prawns (shrimp), filet migon, sirlion, pot stickers stuffed with chicken and veggies.

On each table there is a small stove top with one hot plate. This ofcourse is where all the cooking is done. The server brings out your choice of braising base (bouillion) and in this base you cook (boil) your food. The meats take about 2-5 minutes to cook depending on how rare or well you like your meats (steak) cooked. The veggies take about the same, they are some what precooked to speed things up. Once you have prepared your food there are a variety of dipping sauces for each type of meat.

And finally the last course, of course, is my favorite. Melted chocolate. We ordered the Smores Fondue. This is fine melted chocolate with roasted marshmallows all mixed together. To dip we were server a HUGE plate of strawberries, bananas, pineapple, more marshmallows covered in sugar, brownies, graham crackers, pound cake, and a huge slice of plain cheesecake. WOW

This was about a 2500 calorie meal (each, 5000 total), we are both now stuffed. As a funny side note I had weighed myself while getting a shower before dinner and I have gained 6 pounds. I would normally say this is not right but Abby said similar happened to her. Since we both had half of everything and and both increased about the same, geez is that possible. I think most of it was the 3-4 large sodas we had during the meal.

Anyway I am stuffed and not sure I want to eat tomorrow!

I know why they call it Fondue. Because they are fond of whats due at the end of the meal. The bill! Haha!

Loved your story. I went there with my husband and he was not "into" as much as me. I like eating different kinds of things. He thought it was rather stupid that we were cooking our own meal. I don't think boiled meat really is the best way to go. But, I do love cheese fondue with bread and of course dessert fondue. I think next time I will sit in the bar and have the cheese/bread and dessert and that should be enough for the night!! We were so stuffed after our "works" meal and couldn't even finish eating all the meats available.

We love to fondue, in the summertime out on the deck (so we don't fill the house with oil!), so I know how much fun it is. Lots of meat, veggies, shrooms, bottles of red wine, and a 2 hour meal. Followed by more wine, dessert, and cheese. Easily a 5 pound meal! Cute shot, too. I would never have thought of this. Nice job.

LOL on the BILL joke.. and yep.. I'd say that is definately soda weight for the most part. It sounds like you guys had a great time. We have a similar place here called La Fondue, (still haven't been there!)
