SP Friday gone bad

Well hopefully this will be the last of a fairly disappointing PaD week. I have been under the weather all week and overworked so maybe my heart is just not into it. And it does wear you down to not get get the results or "look" you were going for all week.

Also I am getting annoyed with my G5, 550EX and 420EX combo. I can't seem to get the ratio settings to actually produce different effects. No matter what I tried I only seemed to get results that appear to be 1:1 flash output from both flashes.

Hummmm time to do more flash manual reading.

I don't own either flash, but check the flash WATT output. If it's around 100 WATTS (most camera flashes are) then set one exactly half the strength of the other. If the flashes don't have variable flash power settings, move the second flash exactly twice the distance from the subject. Either way will give you the results that you're looking for. The hotter flash (or closer flash) will be your key light, the second will be the fill light. If you're trying for "hight key" images, then both flashes should be set the same or be the same distance from subject. The object of course in high key is to have no shadows.
