Crikey I was born In the house just in front of the gas works on 1966 it was called riverside house

About 1952 I lived in one of these houses. My house was almost opposite the coke ovens. I loved the tarry smell. In those days Montague Road was the main road between Bluetown and Queenborough, but there wasn't much traffic then. I doubt there were more than two vehicles a day passing through.

The buildings on the left were the gas works,. You could walk up between the first and second which was the coke ovens, to get to the sea wall
