The Battle of Abu Klea lasted about 15 minutes. The relief force marching to Khartoum encountered an Mahdiist force at this watering hole. A quter of an hour later 1100 Mahdists were dead and about 74 British, thanks to the Gardener machine gun. As we know, they were too late to save Gordon at Khatoum.
