Attack of the ATVs

Standing on the plateau, I was in awe of my surroundings. My jaw had dropped to my knees (it was "jaw-dropping" scenery). No one else was about---the solitude was exquisite. It was peaceful. The air was heavy, as the temperature was over 100 degrees F (40 degrees C).

This reverie was broken by an attack of noise and dust created by the passage of several all-terrain vehicles and two motorcycles. Never having seen such vehicles in use, I took several pictures of them. Most of the drivers didn't bother to slow down as they passed me, so I was subjected to an awful cloud of dirt with each vehicle's passing. Once they were gone, I was glad to have my peace and clean air again.
I wondered why these people carried so little emergency equipment with them.
