Odd arrangement of stones, the largest of which (bottom left) is about 3 inches (7.5cm) tall

San Rafael Reef, Utah

The ground under the stones was tightly-compacted sand/dirt. It appeared that
the action of wind had produced this oddity. The ground slopes downward from
right to left. I wonder if flowing water produced the "blank" area...

Mike, thanks for pointing (vectoring?) that out. I was wondering about that very thing at the scene, but could not confirm it because---in a fit of wanting to "go light" on this hike---I left my EPM Force Detection and Clarification Device (EPMFDCD) in the car. I learned my lesson: science is more important than comfort. By the way, I kept a safe distance from the plant, just in case.

Clearly the effect of an electro-photonic-magnetic force, vectored toward (and probably intended for) the small leafy plant. Don't go near it Dave.

Sort of a crop circle...without the availability of crop "they" had to come up with something different ;-)
