From out of the darkness comes a horror

The Goose Neck (near Moab, Utah)

At this moment of terror, Joe Tripod (my photographic assistant) was brave enough
to stand absolutely still. Thank you, Joe---without your help this picture could
not have been taken and no one would know of the horror experienced here.

Dan, I was hoping to shield the world from the awful truth. If a panic develops in Moab, I cannot be held accountable (which is what I keep telling the Internal Revenue Service).

Actually the bush is growing from his back! It's the body-snatcher pods for surehttp://www.pbase.com/dan_123/image/33990616

Eldar, I admire your ability to see something charming in this image. I equate that to the ability to see beauty in battlefield suffering. My doctor assures me that the 220-volt electroshock therapy sessions will cure me of my mesa nightmares. I pray that he is right; if the treatments don't work, my only hope is to find a local precipice.

Thank god I visited Utah in May... This red Star Treck shirt with protruding nipples could set anyone in state on mental shock for the rest of his natural life ! Charming smile, though, but it's secondary...

Do not feel belittled, as we are witness to a simple misunderstanding based on my poor choice of words. I am still recovering from the terrible experience of the mesa; it affects my ability to express myself clearly.

As Junior Agent grade 3, I stand corrected. (and belittled)

1moremile, a clarification is in order lest you get the wrong impression. Based on my lack of memory of certain things around this time, I must assume that the horror depicted here stunned me into a near catatonic state. What is certain is that when I "woke up," the horror was gone, my body was all tensed up, I was drooling, and my camera's film card contained a new image (this one). The “muscle spasm” theory is just that---a theory. My camera’s self-timer mode was not activated, so the camera could not have recorded this on its own. That something activated the shutter button under these conditions is the “miracle.” It is the possibility of such unexplained phenomena that forms the basis for much of my work with UFOs, etc., documented elsewhere.

Don't you just love technology? The way it kind of knew what you wanted and responded very well?

I was so shocked by this apparition that I froze in place, unable to move. A fear-induced muscle spasm in my hand moved my shutter finger. It was a miracle of photography.

You can say that again! How did you keep the camera still enough to fire off a shot!??
