This is the hill to be ascended. Based on my "binocular sessions" earlier in the week, I was
pretty sure that there was a scrambling route to the top of the mesa. However, views from
afar don't always reveal critical details of the topography: shadows and perspective fool
the eye. What appears from a distance to be an easy step in the rocks might be an
insurmountable barrier. The key ("crux" in mountaineering talk) area of the route was
the bright red bands below the large blocky cliff at top right. If I could get through
those bands, the ascent was guaranteed. Hindsight allows me to say "What, me worry?"
Not only did the route "go," it did so with much less difficulty than I had expected.
