This view to the southwest shows my car parked on the road that "encircles" the north end of Floating Island. I shot this shortly after beginning the hike on the mud flat. It was a miserable day: overcast, windy, and cold. It's hard to believe that two hours earlier the area was bathed in sunshine, with no wind.

The dark, blocky formation at right is the summit of Floating Island. It is about 900 feet (274 m) above the mud flat.
