Why on the wye?

view map

Wye not? This is the former railroad wye at Grass Lake, California, near Mt. Shasta in the northern part of the state. It lies on the Union Pacific Railroad's main line between Redding, California, and Klamath Falls, Oregon.

Why is the Green Weenie is parked on the former wye? Because it (the wye) is there and because I went there to relive memories of my travel through here in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1998. At those times I rode through Grass Lake on the track in the background, courtesy of the Southern Pacific Railroad (since merged into Union Pacific). My conveyances were boxcars, gondolas, and flat cars.

This wye, long devoid of tracks, now serves as a maintenance access road for Union Pacific.

I guess Yogi was right.
When you come to a fork
in the road - take it.

A great explanation and I learned a new word.
