Pygmy Woodpecker Up Close

Fatbirder's Top 1000 Birding Websites

I'm not supposed to bird on this business trip (March 18th) to a place near Subic. But I carried a light set-up (20D + 400 5.6L + Tamron 1.4x TC)
just the same in case an interesting birdie begs me to take its pic...;-)

Well... a few minutes of drive-thru pseudo-birding along one of Subic's roads allowed me a glimpse of a lone Philippine Pygmy Woodpecker
doing its thing low at a tree trunk. So I grabbed my camera to take a few shots of this Philippine endemic, the closest encounter I had to date with the bird.

A couple of lifers, including the endemic Blackish Cuckoo-Shrike, came in as a bonus.
