Killer Shrike

I was pleasantly surprised at the rare sight of this Long-Tailed Shrike killing a Eurasian Tree Sparrow and successfully airlifting the carcass to its nest,
after several tries and drops. The large meal should last for days!

This is extreme action in the wild. I just visited UP and found a bird which I cannot ID since I am just new birder. I browsed through your site and lo and behold, what I saw was long tailed shrike! It looked so innocent but these pictures you took proved that looks can be very deceiving.

One thing I like with the killer shrikes or long-tailed shrike is that it reminds me of a dinosaur T-REX, it is carnivorous, ferocious and mean bird. Most of the time you can see it chasing other small birds or mayas (eurasian tree sparrows)I hope to see a killer shrike chasing and eating a smaller alive one of these days.
