Rare Herons at Candaba

Fatbirder's Top 1000 Birding Websites

Got extremely lucky on November 27, 2004 at Candaba Swamp - the Chinese Pond Heron made a very rare appearance. I almost didn't get a pic. I thought it was an ordinary, garden variety Little Egret when it was coming in and just ignored it. When it flew past me, I noticed that it was not all-white. I grabbed by 20D + 400 5.6L and tried to focus at the rarity. Fortunately, it changed direction and flew towards me again. Got a few snaps, with enough detail to pin the ID.

Got the Grey Heron too...8-)... the closest encounter I ever made with flying, large water birds.
