some you win, some you lose

We were given a bread maker by some friends who'd been given two when they got married. They're fantastic - we're complete converts and haven't bought any bread for about a year now, preferring to make our own. The only thing is we never remember to get a new loaf on at the right moment - the cycle takes 4 hours and so we're often sitting waiting for it to finish before we can go to bed.

Yesterday I had a brainwave - email David and get him to put the loaf on before I get home so we can go to bed at a sensible time. Sounds like a good plan!

....well it would have been if he'd remembered the yeast! I peered into the machine just before it was due to finish its cycle and thought 'that doesn't look right' - it usually looks much nicer than that!

So, we had a loaf that looked like something the dogs had left on the garden and no milk so (sob) I ended up going to work with no breakfast - shucks.

Today's email? Yep, it said 'can you put a loaf on - with yeast this time'.

I remember hearing that half a loaf is better than none. Whoever said that never tried to deal with a bread machine. I'm glad all yours was missing was the yeast. The photo made me laugh and laugh at all our bread machine disasters. May have been an inedible loag, but it made a great picture! Thanks for sharing the broken bread. SG
