13th May 2018 - a bit too exciting

When, what seems like months ago, we booked the tickets for the last game of the season, we never imagined how thrilling it would be.

0-1 down about five minutes after kick off, 1-1 by 10 mins, 1-2 down an impossibly short moment further on, 1-3 after half time…and we were sitting about ten seats away from the away fans who were at this point crowing and cat calling. It was all a bit depressing really. At 2-3 we felt a tiny glimmer of hope, then 3-3 phew – thank everything for that. Oh bugger – 4-3 hurrah… 4-4! 5-4 at about 75 minutes and we thought it could easily be 7-6 or 6-7 by the end. Fortunately for our sanity and humour it remained 5-4. Yee haa.

Our season was written off before it started by the pundits who thought we’d end up 7th or 8th because of the infamous “Wembley Hoodoo”. We’ve played 38 games this season, all away from home yet we’ve finished third, smashed records for attendances and beaten Real Madrid, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. Harry Kane, despite two periods of injury, has achieved over 100 Premier League goals. Need I go on?

I’m sure that Premier League clubs all over the land have a parade of players thanking fans. This is ours. These people on the pitch are at the centre of so many of my hopes and dreams, my happiness and my misery. I love Tottenham Hotspur with a great passion that’s lasted for more than 40 years – many, many marriages don’t last that long.

The security is to prevent the fans running onto the pitch to mix with the players. It's standard practice since they took down the fences following the Hillsborough disaster.

I like this shot, although I'm not sure about the security needed to have a game of soccer
