The juxtaposition between two weeks ago today, when we were at Wembley watching our beloved Spurs play the Premier League champions in front of a crowd of over 80,000, after a drive of over 100 miles each way and today. Today we’ve seen a side whose ground is a ten minute walk from home. They too are champions – this year they are champions of Midland Football League Premier Division in front of a crowd of 1,145. Last time we saw them they were being crowned Champions of The Midland Football League Division One. That was a year ago.
There is something special about this level of football. There is a wonderful family environment. A group of primary school age children in front of us whose grown up was timing them running around the pitch! One was wearing a Messi shirt, another, a Ben Foster shirt.
Many fans were in fancy dress, including a dinosaur who was last seen waddling towards the High Street post match and post match celebrations. Today we witnessed our local team annihilate their opposition 5-0 and celebrate their second champion-winning promotion in a row. They’ve come a long way since the Rovers went bust.
Some Spurs fans would see this as disloyal. It’s not! We’re out for a fun afternoon on a day that the Mighty Spurs are not even on a pitch. How can that be disloyal?
