I'm Tottenham 'till I die

Today has been painful. I've been to see my beloved Spurs and they lost 0-4 against Blackburn, giving Blackburn the last UEFA slot ahead of Everton.

I've been really saddened today though, on the train on the way to the game a little boy in a Spurs shirt was enthusing to his Dad about the game. A total stranger (supposedly a Spurs fan on the way to the game) opposite him started ranting about how going to see Spurs is a mug's game and how if the little boy wanted to see a good team he'd better learn to support Arsenal. How cruel is that? Being a fan is about more than winning. It's about belonging to the greater club. It's about walking along the street and seeing someone in a Spurs shirt and smiling at them. It's about knowing that another Spurs fan would look after you in a crisis.

Later, when we were 0-3 down and again when we were 0-4 down loads of fans were chucking their season tickets onto the pitch. The steward pictured is picking them up. I've been a Spurs fan for 25 years and I've never seen such stuff - the singing of 'you're not fit to wear the shirt' was vile. The fans seem to have forgotten Keano's hat-trick and forgotten our other good performances this season - they've also forgotten that Teddy Sheringham, a die hard fan who will never wear the great shirt again was bowing out of his Spurs career today. Good Luck Teddy - I'll never forget your contribution to the club even if the whingers do!

I'll be there next season, will you?
