8th January 2015 - rocket girl

Today I photograph a rocket ship on its way to Mars, on a collision course…so what if it’s really a lemon squeezer, I’m sure Philippe Starck must have seen the vestige of a space ship in his design. It’s emblematic of my world – more-or-less continuously dark at the moment but with occasional bright, beautifully formed bits.

Isn’t it amazing how some things can become so utterly entrenched in our culture in a truly tiny fragment of time. According to Wikipedia, this was only designed in 1990. This one joined my world in 2000 when DM and I became a couple. It's hard to imagine that ten years earlier it didn't exist. It is so beautiful that it feels like it’s of another age – I’d have been very happy to believe it had been designed in the 1930s and am almost disappointed to find out it’s so recently conceived.

Frankly, the black velvet backdrop with something plonked on it and photographed is also emblematic of the void of ideas in my head. Roll on the spring, when I’m hoping to see daylight from time-to-time.
