29th October 2014 - up yours facebook and google

I managed to break my G7 for the second time several months ago and was without a pocket camera for ages. It drove me nuts because I never had a camera when I was out and about and saw an opportunity for my PAD shot. I looked at ebay to see if I could afford a second hand P&S and came to the conclusion that I couldn’t justify spending a large-ish sum on what is, in essence, a luxury item.

My Mum had replaced her camera recently so I asked her if I could borrow her old one until I could afford to buy one, to which she gladly agreed. Then we were thwarted by her old camera refusing point-blank to work. It just wouldn’t go, no matter how much cajoling and prodding we gave it. She took it home and prodded it some more without success and even went to the lengths of taking it to a camera shop and was told that it would be uneconomic to repair.

She rang and apologised profusely, which was totally unnecessary because it was always a longshot. I thought that was the end of the matter and then this little cutie appeared in the post a couple of days later, courtesy of Mum. It arrived while I was at work and so DM opened it and emailed me with what it was. I googled it so I could see it while I was at work (on my work PC) and yet now, every time I log onto facebook or google mail, I see an ad for this exact camera, it’s even a purple one that’s always shown. I’m imagining they thought I was googling it as a potential purchase and so now I’m being bombarded with sales material for it.

Well HA to that – as you can see, I already have my Ixus – and it’s a proper little sweetie – light, easy to carry, shoots good quality pics (for a pocket camera) and is very pretty. So there, facebook and google, yah boo sucks!

Cor blimey - I must be having a hot flush - five days of black and white and now a photo of a camera - have I been accepted into geekdom?

Target marketing happens to the best of us. Drives me nuts to receive Nikon ads, especially since I'm a Canon girl!
You've got a great mum! :)

You have been officially target marketed. Pesky aren't they.

Must be.

Same thing happens to me. I see "sponsored ads" pop up for items that I have searched for - including cameras and clothes. I hate it!
