28th June 2014 - playing chicken

We’ve been to Trago today to buy the colouriser for my next project – hand-made paving slabs to build a patio in our garden! I know that most people will think I am certifiably bonkers but I am going to fire my concrete mixer up tomorrow morning to make my first batch of three paving slabs using the wonderful moulds given to me by Erica after her beloved husband Pete (the moulds’ previous owner) died a couple of years ago. They need to be made in batches, because they have to set before they can be turned out of the moulds so you can only make three at a time. If I’m going to make enough to lay this patio that I’ve been working up to for the last three years, I need to start now so there are enough that are made and cured by the time I start my summer holiday. If my patio turns out to be anywhere close to as nice as hers, I’ll be a very happy bunny.

On our way into the store I was really glad I’d brought my camera because I spotted this cockerel wandering into a fast food store on the periphery of the store. The thing the cock doesn’t realise is they sell chicken in this store – this truly is “playing chicken” on a monumental scale, even if he doesn’t realise the danger he’s putting himself into!

So, I salute the bird for having more guts than me – go chicken!
