I’m not 100% sure but my guess is that this window in our local gusher is a relatively (possibly 1930s) recent addition to the décor. Well, in fact I can be sure it wasn’t there when the pub was built because we have old photos that don’t feature this window.
It’s a traditional event in the programme that makes up a visit from my folks – they always take us there and buy us dinner. That’s partly because they are kind souls and partly because I really appreciate not needing to think of “meaty” meals every night they are here. So far they’ve had ham and pineapple pizza (home-made of course) and salmon. So, tonight I get to have a night where I don’t have to worry about how to please them because they are able to choose one of Eileen’s (fantastic cook of said establishment) finest creations. Phew – only one more night to go now – I’m sure I’ll think of something.
When DM and I go into the pub on our own we try to avoid this side of the pub – it’s a bit too formal and a lot too light for us. However, tonight, a busy bank holiday weekend, a full bar and stressed bar staff meant this was our top option. So here we are, G7 in the pocket, and I look up and have a “Eureka” moment. So here is the stained glass window of the pub.
Because we live in a conservation area, there are many old photographs of our village and these provide a really fascinating insight into what was here before us. I LOVE that. It makes me feel as though we are little cogs in the great timepiece of life and not just lounging around.
Big wow - it's the second time in four days my photo and therefore I have been in the pub. Blimey - we might actually contribute a bit to their profits one of these days.
