Is this man JUST a cool dude? Nope. He’s a man whose colour-blindness has been the cause of a great deal of misery over his lifetime. To be fair, it has also been the cause of a bit of hilarity too but only in a good way if you know what I mean!

Ever since my parents have been together (about 56 years in total), my mum has said “why can’t someone invent something to cure colour-blindness?” Then, a few months ago, she read an article in a newspaper about some special glasses that someone in the USA had invented and they could be used for colour blind people to see colours. My Dad searched the UK for some and they’re not available here so he sent off for some lenses to the USA.

When they arrived and he held them up to his eyes, a whole new world revealed itself to him – a world where red is red, green is green and brown is brown. He was, quite literally overjoyed. He tried to get them made into glasses and had a few hiccups from opticians who said they wouldn’t work on them but after a false start, he found an optician that agreed to put the lenses into a pair of clip-on lenses.

Now, he is able to see the red rhododendron flowers and the azalea flowers and all the other red, green and brown things. They are a strange colour but they are life-transforming.
