We are, as most already know, cringingly frugal. These are kitchen roll tubes, stuffed with two toilet rolls in each end, that have been saved for me by my Mum. I use them to grow things in – bung some compost in, bung a seed in and when the seed has germinated, plant the whole lot in the ground, whereby the toilet roll disintegrates and there is no annoyingly horrible plastic plant pot that can’t be recycled.
These come to our house in a big box with as many newspapers as they can collect, which get used for starting the fire. Occasionally, they bring sack-full-s of broken fence panel or, even more occasionally, a whole lot more timber to burn. All of which is less “stuff” that ends up in landfills.
