Life really is a journey and it's not always easy to know
which maps to trust, or what to pack for the trip
But whatever the weather, wherever the road leads

I'd like to echo what both Phil and JD have said, Ai Li. Your images are always centered on the humane, the search for individual expression in an ever increasing small world. Here, you've fine tuned your eye to give us not only individualism, but it's relationship/existence to the strangers we encounter in our everyday lives. The contrasts are humorous, the similarities familiar. The maturity of your talent is very evident - your eye is pushing the sentimental to the back. It's the subject that is the key. Jenene

A fascinating work! The style of this series is quite different from what usually attract my attention, but I was totally captured. Your images have a strong personality by their own but then don’t neglect accuracy and respect for photography as an art which needs altos a technical basis. I'll first give an overall impression, after going through these images once. So just raw impressions. This is the gallery of maturity. It has a strong consistency of style, despite the diversity of the images, a very achieved set of images, that truly impresses me.

This should be printed out and buried in a time capsule as a true snapshot of modern life with all it's hopes and disappointments, highs and lows, old and new, light and darkness. A stunning gallery or maybe one huge entity as Phil says. And you were happy in good company which is even better!

I am just back from Yelllowstone but I had to let you know how moved I was by this gallery, Ai Li. You continue your journey as both a traveler and an expressive photographer. I see it not as a gallery of individual images, but as a single entity with a single mission: to express the never ending struggle for individuality. Your square format black and white style is a good match for the content here. The rigidity and predicability of this form suggests the structure of the world we live in -- and the turbulent, often jarringly discordant activities constrained within those squares suggest the process we all go through -- to assert our own individuality. I don't know if you intended this effect or not, but the combination of the gritty, energetic, enthusiastic, and often poignant imagery within the checkerboard format creates a powerfully unforgettable effect. Everyone here seems to be trying to be themselves, each in their own way, yet like it or not, they are also conforming to the world around them. This is fine work, Ai Li -- I continue to stand in awe of your perception, your artistry, and your integrity as an expressive photographer.
