Jodhpur India

shoot the light

Some of you probably know about my fear of shooting at night and under low light.
I got unsteady hands and poor exposure control. And I hate using tripod! :-(
But after being inspired by a few great pbasers, their quest for light,
I started looking and trying again. Though this is rather ordinary and is not a good neat shot,
I like the setting very much. It was taken at the roof top of a small local hotel in Jodhpur.
Chatting, laughing, and watching the street living below as it slowly unwind and quietly settled...
Hey you, care to join me at the next table? :-) Have a great weekend!

I hate using tripod too!!
Very nice lighting and use of negative space with the silhouettes of people.

A very cozy stage setting for some 'catching up' with friends. I really like the warmth of the light and the intimacy of the darkness.

You did very well here - capturing the colors, no motion blur, no burned areas. I would definitely feel like joining on the empty table!

Another nice silhouette photo. It certainly looks like it would be a good place for a long conversation here.

Hey, let's chat and laugh over a curry. You seem to have the hang of this low light thing ;-)

I'm envious...this is a shot I would love to take. The mood and silhouettes and the gold is very appealing.
Nice one AL!

Love the colour and the silhouettes and the blue touch. A fine fine night shot Ai Li, so so sharp and not easy for your wobbly hands:-). Wonderful. V

This is an outstanding shot. Technically excellent. Did you use the timer to get such a crisp shot? Love the composition V

Beautiful silhouettes.
I get the feeling they are waiting for a play to begin.

This is wonderful. It looks as if it is in a theatre, onstage.

Amazing shot, the silhouette of the person on the left shows an animated story while the other 2 seem to be listening intently.. I love the light with the red glow surrounding it at the top of the image. This gives me such a lovely feeling just looking at it :)

The silhouetted people and their body language against the gold is really nice

I'm with you (about the tripod).. but I've been trying to use one more just so I can get some low-light shots. It's working and that's cool, but I still hate dragging it around.

The gallery starts to take shape, two by two.
I like silhouettes like this - they fuel the imagination. I can imagine the lights rising slightly and murmers of chatter gradually becomming recognisable as the scene becomes animated.

What else can one add to Phil's comments except how brilliant this image is. Bravo!!!

You learn a wonderful lesson here, Ai Li -- by shooting the light first, and the content second, you can make ordinary content extraordinary. It is a stage set, a masterwork of abstraction, an image rich in both incongrous setting and human values (camaraderie). You are maturing as a travel photographer with this gallery, Ai Li. You avoid description, clutter, mergers, all the things that can dilute meaning. Instead you concentrate on seeking an essence, and in each case so far, you do. The color combination in this image use variants of the three primaries -- red, yellow, and blue. The gesture of the man at left is evocative -- he is telling the others how he feels. And you are telling us here how you feel about what you see as well.

Is it the day for posting orange photos?! Regardless of that, you have captured a lovely mood with this shot, and the next table does look very inviting.

People talking around the table, silhouettes over the street lights. I think it's a delightful shot. Great atmosphere!
