Mumbai India

daddy's girl

I love sunset. Being a typical travel photographer, I used to "chase" after sunset.
It’s always a perfect end to a day and beginning to another.
I’ve seen many beautiful sunsets on pbase that never fail to make my jaw drop :-)
Inspired by my dear friend Ros (thanks gal!), I visited Marine Drive in Mumbai,
famous for its cityscape and sunset view. In fact many locals would also gather at this time,
day after day, to unwind and admire the beauty. I wanted to add a human element,
but was not sure what to expect. I stood and waited as friends, couples, families and individuals,
walked in and out of my frame. Then they came, a father and his young daughter, and I instantly
knew that they’re the right ones for me :-) What do you think? Did they make a difference?

(Sorry that I’ve not commented on your works. I was down for last two days.
Will catch up soon! Thanks and have a nice weekend!)

Yes, a gorgeous sunset with terrific colors, but I love the human element too...they seem to be marveling at nature's beauty. V.

Yes dear, they definitely make this image of a sunset (which would be a beautiful image on its own with the full and warm color), a truly expressive one, much enhanced by the full abstraction of forms.

The simplest of things - sharing the sunset with a child. An act that will write indelibly on her soul. Beautiful, Ai Li.

The sun itself would be nothing, without the balanced shadows left and right. The composition is right on - I would have used a smaller silouhette for daddy and baby, and I would have been wrong. Excellent exposure as well. Vote.

Can I just say that I am glad you waited....

I love the warmth (in so many ways) you managed to capture here,Ai Li.
I like what Niall said too. V

The perfect silhouette of father and child. I like the way the child is reaching out to the city too, passing our gaze past the sun and combining all the elements of the photograph.

This could be anywhere, Ai Li. It is a universal image that trancends location. The abstracted father and daugher merge into a single entity, which is perhaps the strongest of the many symbols you use here. For the moment, they have become one.

brilliant captured moment. V.

A perfect shot !!

A most touching image, Ai Li. I get the sense that the parent and child could be gesturing towards the city as a symbol of the unknown and of opportunity, but also the sense of fear and failure that accompany those things.

Stunning composition, a beautiful subject, wonderfully exposed. The warmth of a family and the warmth of the sunset, what more could you want?
Kal Khogali19-Jan-2007 14:12
There is a feeling of continuity in this image. Like a next generation is being handed the light of the sun. fantastic Ai Li. K

The human presence transforms a trivial sunset in wonderful story! Bravissima!

Yes they did, they finished it off. A beautiful shot.

I like it; the colours are great and the people add interest to it. Every sunset is different.

One of your finest images Ai li. The silhouette is just perfect. A great start to my early day. V
Guenter Eh19-Jan-2007 06:30
The silhouettes of the father with his daughter opposite to the buildings creates an excellent frame to the sunset. This is very original and not one of the typical sunset views we know alread! Strong work AiLi! Big vote!
