INDIAN WOMEN'S COURT ON DOWRY AND RELATED FORMS OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

“Let us tell you the story of the Court of Women” with these words Corinne Kumar, the mother founder of the World Courts of Women, takes us on the journey of a new political imaginary they walked and are walking. “It was a dream of many years ago, a dream to break the silence that enshrouds the violence, to rewrite women’s histories, to reclaim our memories, to find new visions for out times. To tell our stories not only of pain, but also of courage and survival, to find another logic, another way to know. The Courts of Women are an unfolding of a space, an imaginary: a horizon that invites us to think, to feel, to challenge, to connect, to dance, to dream. It is an attempt to define a new space for women, and to infuse this space with a new vision, a new politics. It is a gathering of voices and visions of the global south, locating itself in a discourse of dissent: in itself it is a dislocating practice, challenging the new world order of globalization, crossing lines, breaking new ground: listening to the voices of movements in the margins.”

I was privileged to attend the Court of Women in Bangalore. From July 28, 2009 more than 2000 women and men came together for “DAUGHTERS OF FIRE”, the Indian Court of Women on Dowry and Related Forms of Violence against Women. All day was filled with outstanding courageous women and a man who told their personal stories of pain and mourning. Stories that do break our hearts. “BUT SEE ME THROUGH YOUR TEARS” is written on artistic banners in the Court spaces “DON'T STEP ON MY TEARS”. “While the Courts of Women listen to the voices of the victims/survivors, they also listen to the voices of women who resist, who rebel, who refuse to turn against their dreams.”
Yes this Women's Court feels like a sacred space, a place of healing too. It is like out of all this pain, people don’t get discouraged but on the contrary, strength enlarges. Hope is alive because they know, experience at the moment, yes there are other worlds. “WE ARE THE FIRE OF TIME - WE ARE THE ENDLESS PILLARS THAT HAVE WITHSTOOD DEATH - WE ARE WOMEN”. I believe that it unique feminist methodology, evolved by the Courts of Women that revolves around weaving together the personal, the political, the affective and the aesthetic, that makes this new political imaginary walking.

In this photo report I want to take you all the way of the Indian Court of Women program on July 26-29, 2009: the WiB vigil, the opening of the program with the roundtables, the day of the Women’s Court and the Post Court Conversations. This Women’s Court is a result of intense work and partnership from Vimochana and AWHRC with about 40 women’s organizations from all over India. For more than 1,5 year they closely worked together, organized hearings and other events in preparation of this Indian Women’s Court. I am glad that I can bring you a photo report on the hearings organized in Kolar and Mandya district, the filmfestival “daughters of fire” in Bangalore and give you a glance on the work in Vimochana office. I am so impressed by their work, they realy have my biggest respect !

"Laat ons jullie het verhaal vertellen van de Vrouwen Hoven" met deze woorden neemt Corinne Kumar, de moeder en oprichter van de Wereld Rechtbanken van Vrouwen, ons mee op de reis van een nieuwe politieke verbeelding ze aanvingen en blijven doorgaan. "Het was een droom van vele jaren geleden, een droom om de stilte die rond het geweld op vrouwen hangt te doorbreken, om de geschiedenis van vrouwen te herschrijven, onze herinneringen terug te vorderen, om nieuwe visies te vinden. Om onze verhalen te vertellen, niet alleen van pijn, maar ook van moed en overleven,om een andere logica, een andere manier van weten naar boven te laten komen. De Vrouwen Hoven creëren als het ware ruimte, scheppen een ruimte voor een nieuwe verbeelding. Een verbeelding die je horizon verlegt en je uitnodigt om na te denken, te voelen, aan te vechten, om te verbinden, om te dansen, te dromen. Het is een poging om een nieuwe ruimte voor vrouwen te scheppen, en deze ruimte te injecteren met een nieuwe visie, een nieuwe politiek. Het is een verzameling van stemmen en visies van het Zuiden, stemmen die zich lokaliseren in een discours van dissidentie: de nieuwe wereldorde van de globalisering uitdagend, grenzen overschrijdend, nieuwe grond aanborend: het luisteren naar de stem van de bewegingen in de marge. "

Ik had het voorrecht om deel te nemen aan het Vrouwen Tribunaal in Bangalore. Van 28 juli 2009 kwamen meer dan 2000 vrouwen en mannen samen voor "Dochters van Vuur", het Indische Tribunaal van Vrouwen over bruidsschat en aanverwante vormen van geweld tegen vrouwen. De hele dag was gevuld met de getuigenissen van fantastisch moedige vrouwen en een man die hun persoonlijke verhaal vertelde van pijn en rouw. Verhalen die ons hart breken. “Maar zie me door je tranen" hangt op artistieke spandoeken in het Women’s Court. En iets verder: "DO NOT STEP ON MY TEARS / STAP NIET OP MIJN TRANEN". Corinne Kumar vervolgt: "Hoewel de Vrouwen Hoven naar de stem van de slachtoffers / nabestaanden luisteren, luisteren ze ook naar de stemmen van vrouwen die zich tegen het onrecht verzetten, die weerstand bieden, die weigeren om hun dromen op te geven."

Ja Women’s Court voelt als een veilige plek, een heilige ruimte bijna, een plek van genezing ook. Het is alsof al die pijn de mensen niet ontmoedigd heeft, maar integendeel, hun sterkte vergroot. Hoop leeft, omdat zij weten, op dit moment, samen met al de andere aanwezigen ervaren, ja er zijn nog andere werelden. "WIJ ZIJN HET VUUR VAN DE TIJD - WIJ ZIJN DE EINDLOZE PILAREN DIE DE DOOD WEERSTAAN HEBBEN - WIJ ZIJN VROUWEN." Ik geloof dat dank zij die feministische unieke methode, ontwikkeld door de Vrouwen Tribunalen, die draait rond het in en door mekaar weven van het persoonlijke, het politieke, het affectieve en het esthetische, die nieuwe politieke verbeelding vorm kon krijgen en haar weg gaan.

Op dit foto verslag wil ik jou meenemen op de hele weg, het hele programma van het Indische Vrouwen Hof programma dat liep van 26 tot 29 juli 2009: de wake van Vrouwen in ‘t Zwart, de opening en dagprogramma met de rondetafelgesprekken, de dag van de Women's Court zelf en de Nabesprekingen tijdens de laatste dag. Dit Vrouwen Hof is het resultaat van intensieve samenwerking en partnerschap van Vimochana en AWHRC met ongeveer 40 vrouwen-organisaties uit heel India. Meer dan 1,5 jaar hebben zij hieraan nauw samengewerkt, organiseerden als voorbereiding hoorzittingen en andere evenementen in verschillende dorpen en districten over heel India. Ik ben blij dat ik kan u een foto verslag kan aanbiedden van de hoorzittingen georganiseerd in Kolar en Mandya district, het filmfestival "dochters van vuur 'in Bangalore en je een blik geven op het werk in het kantoor van Vimochanar. Ik ben zo onder de indruk van hun werk, zij hebben mijn allergrootste respect!

LE TRIBUNAL DES FEMMES INDIENNES SUR LA DOT ET LES FORMES ASSOCIEES DE VIOLENCE CONTRE LES FEMMES

« Laissez-nous vous raconter l’histoire du Tribunal des femmes » c’est avec ces mots que Corinne Kumar, la mère fondatrice des Tribunaux mondiaux des Femmes, nous emmène dans un voyage d’un nouvel imaginaire politique dans lequel elles ont marché et continuent à marcher.

« C’était un rêve qui datait de bien des années, le rêve de briser le silence qui enveloppe la violence, de réécrire les hstoires des femmes, de revendiquer notre mémoire, de trouver une autre logique, une autre manière de savoir. Les Tribunaux des Femmes sont un dévoilement d’iun espace, un imaginaire : un horizon qui nous invite à penser, à sentir, à contester, à connecter, à danser, à rêver. C’est une tentative pour définir un espace nouveau pour les femmes, et pour infuser cet espace d’une vision nouvelle, une politique nouvelle. C’est le rassemblement de voix et de visions du Sud global, se situant lui-même dans un discours de dissidence : par lui-même, c’est une pratique de dislocation, contestant le nouvel ordre mondial de globalisation, franchissant des limites, ouvrant des terrains nouveaux : écoutant les voix des mouvements à la marge. »

J’ai eu le privilège d’assister au Tribunal des Femmes de Bangalore. A partir du 28 juillet 2009, plus de 2.000 femmes et hommes se sont rassemblés pour les « FILLES DU FEU »le tribunal indien des Femmes sur la dot et les formes associées de violence contre les femmes. La journée entière a été remplies par des femmes et un hommes d’un courage exceptionnel qui racontaient leurs histoires personnelles de souffrance et de deuil. Des histoires à briser le cœur. « MAIS VOYEZ-MOI A TRAVERS MES LARMES » se trouve écrit sur des bannière artistiques dans les espaces du Tribunal « NE MARCHEZ PAS SUR MES LARMES ». « Pendant que les Tribunaux de Femmes écoutent les voix des victimes/des survivantes, ils écoutent aussi les voix de femmes qui résistent, qui se rebellent, qui refusent d’aller à l’encontre de leurs rêves. »

Oui, on ressent ce Tribunal des Femmes comme un espace sacré, aussi comme un espace de guérison. C’est comme si après toutes ces souffrances, les gens n’étaient pas découragés mais au contraire, se renforçaient. L’espoir est présent parce qu’ils savent, vivent le moment, oui, il existe d’autres mots. « NOUS SOMMES LE FEU DU TEMPS, NOUS SOMMES DES FEMMES ». Je crois que c’est cette méthodologie féministe unique, développée par les tribunaux des femmes et qui les imprègne en tissant ensemble le personnel, le politique, l’affectif et l’esthétique qui en fait cette marche d’un nouvel imaginaire politique.

Dans ce reportage photos, je veux vous emmener à-travers tout le programme du Tribunal indien des Femmes, les 26-29 juillet 2009 : la vigie des FENS, l’ouverture du programme avec des tables rondes, le jour du Tribunal des Femmes et les conversations qui ont suivi le Tribunal. Ce tribunal est le résultat d’un travail intense et du partenariat de Vimochana et de AWHRC avec environ 40 organisations de femmes de l’Inde entière. Pendant plus d’un an et demi elles ont travaillé étroitement ensemble, ont organisé des audienceset d’autres événements en préparation de ce Tribunal indien des femmes. Je suis heureuse de pouvoir vous apporter un reportage photos sur les audiences organisées dans le district de Komar et Mandya, sur le festival de films « Les filles du feu » à Bangladore et vous donnez un aperçu du travail au bureau de Vimochana. Leur travail m’impressionne tellement, je leur offre vraiment mon plus grand respect !
