Banding a RCW Hatchling

Copyright © Lewis Scharpf

Adjusting the band on the tibia of a RCW hatchling. The band may be affixed to the tibia of the hatchling at this age since the tibia does not increase in diameter over the lifetime of the bird. Some bands, however are lost over time. These bands can be observed on adult birds through spotting scopes which allows tracking of their movements.
