This squirrel is found from southeastern Glorida to Georgia and west to the Choctawhatchee River.
The squirrel is currently listed by the State of Florida as a "threatened" species.
Due to habitat loss, Sherman's Fox Squirrel has been designated as a species of special concern and hunting or traping of them is prohibited by state and federal law.
They are the largest North American squirrel and are more than twice the size of the common gray squirrel.
They may weigh more than 2 pounds and reach a length of 26 inches.
