Note: The color of this squirrel is highly variable
ranging from black to brwon with a black head, white
ears, and a white snout. The species can be found
throughout the Florida penninsula and up to central
Georgia.
Habitat loss for this squirrel has been great. It is
estimated that only 10-20% of it is still intact.
The squirrel is protected as a State Species of Special Concern
by Florida's Endangered and Threatened Species Rule.
