Copyright © Lewis Scharpf

Subfamily: Campopleginae
According to Guald (1984)*, "to avoid parasites, this family of Ichneumon Wasps suspend their cocoon from a plant by a long thread and many also have black and white blotched cocoons that resemble bird droppings.
*Gauld, I.D., 1984. An introduction to the Ichneumonidae of Australia. British Museum (Natural History) Publication 895. 413 pp.
I found this cocoon attached to the end of leaves on a shrub in the woods.
