Furcifer lateralis
Native to the island of Madagascar and its range encompasses much of the island.
This image captures the ability of chameleons to move their eyes independently of
each other. The lizard's left eye is looking straight ahead while the lizard's right eye is
looking down.During normal operation, one eye is engaged in scanning the surroundings
while the other eye is motionless: this arrangement is believed to diminish the risk
of detection by any watchful prey. In due course, the other eye is brought into
action and when the prey is detected the strike is explosively fast and highly accurate.
