These images depict the Gulf Fritillary, Agraulis vanillae and photomicrographs of a selected portion of its hindwing.
The photomicrographs were produced with an optical microscope equipped with a high resolution illumination system
developed in the laboratory of Dr. Vitaly Vodyanoy, Auburn, University.
This microscope system is capable of producing high resolution images of living biological specimens in real time.
The images were taken by Dr. Oleg Pustovyy, Auburn University.
The photomicrographic composite is used with the permission of Dr. Vodyanoy.
