These photos were taken during the very informative, enlightening and humorous 105-minute trolley tour (except for the stop at the Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse, which are in a separate sub-gallery). Portland, ME is the nearest iced-in-free port to Europe's coastline. It has 660,666 people and is the biggest city in Maine. It was built on a peninsula in 1632. John Smith (Pocahontas) discovered it and kept a diary. He said he counted 365 islands in the area. The movie "The Preacher's Wife" used Portland to film the scene when Whitney Houston and Denzel Washington went ice skating.
